how do I get Mobile Tracking?
Once you have subscribed to the Crystal Ball Mobile Tracking service you just need to download the app to a GPS supported handset which must be enabled with a mobile data tariff. For more information please contact us.
how can I download the Mobile Tracking app to my handset?
The Crystal Ball Mobile Tracking app can either be downloaded directly to your handset over the 3G mobile network or transferred to your handset from a desktop computer / laptop using a USB connection.
When choosing to download over the mobile network a text message is used to send a link for the app to your handset. Typical download times can be from just 20 seconds to 20 minutes depending on mobile data network coverage at your location.
When transferring from a desktop computer / laptop an email is sent including a link to download the app to your pc. The app can then be transferred in just a few seconds to your mobile using the handset manufacturer's recommended software.
which technology does Mobile Tracking use to locate the handset?
Crystal Ball uses GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) to locate the mobile handset. GPS offers accuracy to within 5 metres, dependent upon conditions. Certain handsets feature assisted GPS which uses LBS (Location Based Services) and this technology is utilised in addition to GPS with Crystal Ball's LWP (Lone Worker Protection) product.
GPS requires clear line of sight for optimum results. When used in a vehicle mobile handsets should be mounted on the windscreen using an in-car cradle and charger. does Crystal Ball offer all of its products on one platform?

can I use Mobile Tracking abroad?
Yes. You should be aware that your handset must have any roaming bars lifted to provide continued service and that your mobile account will incur international roaming data charges. can I view my GPS mobile handsets anywhere at any time?
Yes, through the internet as Crystal Ball is a true live web based tracking system. System speeds are therefore directly dependent upon the quality of the Internet connection you are using.
can the Crystal Ball app be moved from one mobile to another?
Yes – Once Crystal Ball has been notified of the details of the new handset, and verified its compatibility the app can then be installed.
do I need a data tariff for my mobile phone to use Mobile Tracking?
Yes. You need to ensure that you have a suitable mobile data tariff for your GPS supported handset.
is Crystal Ball affected by mobile coverage issues?
No. In the event of loss of mobile data coverage the GPS mobile handset stores location data on board. Once coverage is resumed the data is uploaded, meaning that no information is lost.
is GPS affected by atmospheric conditions?
Yes. The positioning data provided directly by the satellites is extremely precise but there are many factors that can create errors. Sources of error include atmospheric distortion (predominantly in the ionosphere), satellite clock inaccuracies, and the travel delays of the satellite signals. Typically these errors will do no more than report a location that may be slightly inaccurate. Atmospheric conditions may also affect the quality of the GPS signal.
